The Genie
"TEN THOUSAND YEARS... can give you such a crick in the neck!!"
DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE IMPORTANCE OF BODY LANGUAGE
Age: 10,000+ years; appears 40 by human standards
Face Claim: James Monroe Iglehart
Occupation: Magician and actor
BUT ON THE WHOLE I'VE BEEN A SAINT
Personality: Even in his new corporeality, Genie's personality is larger-than-life. As one of the few characters that still retains his memories of days gone by, Genie does what he can to keep the hope that he can help turn memories and characters back to normal. Adapting to city life and his human body has taken a bit of work on his end, but it's becoming old hat for the spirit. Additionally, Genie has found a new passion in both performing magic and acting. Although what the humans refer to as "magic" pales severely in comparison to the powers he once held, it's better than nothing -- and he gets a kick out of getting to thrill unsuspecting humans on the Broadway stage every single night.
Place of Residence: Upper West Side, Manhattan
IT WON'T COST MUCH
Friends: Aladdin, Abu, Jasmine, Iago
Enemies: Jafar, Nasira
Family: N/A
Gang, Group or Organization:
Actors Equity Association
YA POOR UNFORTUNATE SOUL

Saturday night on Broadway, as anyone in New York City knew, was a treat to experience. Theatres filled to the brim, audiences clutched their playbills in excitement and anticipation, and the magic began to pervade the area. And in Genie's case, the magic that was beginning to settle in the atmosphere was quite literal. For one thing, the show he was starring in was none other than a revival of Stephen Schwartz's aptly-titled The Magic Show, at the Longacre Theatre. For Genie (now known as Gene Nieson), getting to combine two things very dear to him -- one he had always known, and one he had grown to love -- was, in and of itself, the opportunity of a lifetime. He was lucky to have worked his way into the leading role; not only getting to play a character with a story, but having the opportunity to create illusions and perform tricks in front of new audiences night after night. And this night was no exception.
He was in his dressing room, assembling his costume. The call for half-hour had just been made as a sigh escaped his frame. He hated to admit it, but in some ways, he was thankful for being condemned to live in New York City. It beat a rusty old lamp ten to one -- that was for sure. But it also came with a lot of drawbacks. Aladdin? Jasmine? Neither of them could even remember who he was, let alone recognize his face. Having real magic powers, as well as a more, er, phenomenal size was also a letdown. He couldn't even transform anymore -- what was he supposed to do when he needed to make a comeback? Emote?
Genie looked up, catching his reflection in his dressing room mirror. It truly was a blessing and a curse, being stuck in a strange body in this strange land.
